SCHEDULE OF THE DAY

8:45-9:45 am               Mental Health/Coping Mechanisms and Gambling Addiction – Dr. Timothy Fong is an international researcher, clinician who is well versed in the addiction field and working with diverse cultures. He practices out of University of California Los Angeles. 

Expert to speak about why a person might develop a problem with their gambling behavior. What are the mental health reasons behind problematic behavior and how can someone make healthy decisions in response to dealing with stressful life experiences. Presenter will also cover the basics of gambling addiction and the overlaps with other addictions.

10:00-11:00 am           Youth Gambling & Parent Communication – Wilder Community Mental Health & Wellness Clinic.

Family counselor will provide information about youth brain development as it relates to gaming and gambling. Practical tips on how to communicate with children regarding their behavior will be discussed. There will be opportunities to model conversations and discuss options in small groups.

11:15 am-12:15 pm    Resources for Healing and Help –A Panel Discussion

How does a community and individuals within a community deal with their problem gambling? Methods of treatment and paths to healing and wellness vary in each cultural group. Who are the trusted leaders in the community that one may turn to for help. Facilitators will provide information about these various methods and will share resources.

12:15-1:15 pm            Lunch and Table Discussion

During lunch, participants will be able to have discussions about the presentations. This will also be a time to talk about additional questions and concerns they have that haven’t been addressed.
